In 2005. Ministry of sustainable development of Montenegro has published guidelines and call for an initiative to introduce Eco Lodge concept in Montenegro. Since than there were no serious attempts to build an actual Eco Lodge. The initiative came from us – DVARP and the Municipality of Šavnik with some citizens interested in developing the model – to make an appropriate eco resort in the Valley of Komarnica, close to the famous Nevidio Canyon.
At the end of the valley at an altitude of 935m begins Canyon Nevidio. Tucked away and hidden in the inaccessible terrain the canyon has caused a lot of attention and curiosity in the past. The first serious but unsuccessful attempts to discover the Canyon were carried out in 1957 and in 1964. There were endless strange and fantastic stories of the last unconquered canyon in Europe until August 1965 when the group of climbers and mountaineers passed through. Since than, it has been one of the most interesting places to experience in Montenegro.
After much on-site analysis, we have designed a resort that embraces the principles of sustainable tourism.
There are three phases of construction identified in the process. First one is an entrance platform with info spot, restaurant and canyoning training center. Accommodation facilities are divided into two phases, that are second and third of the overall project. Accommodation facilities of phase 2 are 10 houses on one round-shaped platform. This accommodation platform is raised up on an existing terrain spot to provide intimacy for guests and uninterrupted views of beautiful surroundings. There are two types of houses that accommodate altogether 40 guests. Each house is designed for a short stay, for contemporary traveler in love with nature.
Phase three are four houses across the river, designed in such a way that each house can be used as a unit for a larger group of people or each house can be used by different smaller groups in spaces inside that can be treated as separate accommodation units.
